General information about court

Normal court sitting hours are 10.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday.

There will be times when the court will sit outside these hours i.e. court may start at 9.30am so it is best to check before attending court.

Court lists can be found in foyer areas, outside courtrooms and on the internet. Visit Lawlink to view the court lists online.

The court normally breaks for morning tea at around 11.30am and for lunch between 1.00pm and 2.00pm.

There is a court officer in each court who can help you with any questions.

Rules for the courtroom

  • Switch off mobile phones before entering the courtroom
  • Be polite
  • Maintain a quiet and respectful manner in court
  • Sit quietly in the courtroom
  • Dress appropriately, this means smart casual, comfortable and warm
  • Take off your hat, cap or sunglasses
  • Do not eat, drink, chew gum or smoke inside the courtroom
  • Remember to bow when you go in or leave the court
  • Remember the Magistrate or Judge is the person in charge in the court
